Pratapa Bernard, Head- CoE for Data Services, Vodafone Group

Posted by Sandeep

Mobile industry in the last one decade has gone through various pain points

5 key ingredients of a successful mobile product

#1. Integrate within users lifestyle

e.g one touch RBT, IDEA CELLULAR’S idea of pressing the star while listening to a song, to make it a caller tones. They used to get a million user every 4 months but after the introduction of this facility, they got next million in just 18 days

Enable services in their ecosystem, e.g capturing reminders from email, saving pictures to web

If the consumer is not using the apps on a regular basis, its gonna die

#2 Mobile internet- think outside the box

Doing banking transactions through internet

Add mobility to web services

Is email = reply, mobile internet = internet on mobile??

#3 focus on the user experiences

Most used and abused statement

e.g adding comments on facebook, linkedIn etc

give all the info in the existing digital lifestyle

Keep it simple and stupid

any mobile transaction that is more than 3 steps, you are bound to lose that customer

one click apps is the solution

#4 There is no single killer app, but have killer environments e.g google, facebook, amazon that makes a killer one

e.g Google and Apple

look at specialised / mash-up

look for core product with plug-in interfaces adding diversity

#5 Rapid prototyping, testing and scalability

Engage with customers , get feedback, ensure scalability, else it will shrivel and wither away

Do many things, pick the one that clicks and build on that

Throw it up and see what sticks

Just because the thing is not worked in west, don’t dismiss it, eg voice based services

Take attention to the social consideration

Vodafone is now working on data services for emerging markets

If 100 people own the phone, less than 5 ppl use the services

Posted by Shrinidhi Hande

We’re having lots of buzz going on wondering what this Speed Dating thing is all about…

To clear your doubts, here’re a brief as to what Speed Dating scheduled during IAMAI’s Mobile Application Developers’s Meet is…

Speed Dating is an arrangement wherein participants would get a 10 min one to one time with a speaker of his/her choice. One gets to interact with the speaker in person, share his/her ideas/concerns, get tips, advices and so on.

Below are some pics from the speed dating room, during the 1st MoBile App Developers Meet held in Bangalore during June 2010

Speed dating is a good opportunity to seek help/inputs from experts. Do not miss it.

Speed Dating at MAD Meet, 29 July, explained

Posted by Shrinidhi Hande

We got lots of inquires asking what is speed dating that is mentioned in the agenda of Mobile App Developers’ Meet.

Be assured that we’re not getting into match making business. Here’s speed dating explained:
IAMAI MAD Meet- Speed dating
At most of the conferences, participants hardly get to talk to speakers one on one; this is because of time constraints and huge number of participants. As a result, lots of questions will be leftover unanswered and delegates may not be able to make the most of the conference.

However, IAMAI’s Mobile Application Developers’ Meet is going to be different.

End of the day, one full session is dedicated to Speed Dating. Under this, participants of the event can request IAMAI as to with which speaker they’d like to interact with. After receiving the requests, IAMAI officials will facilitate one on one interaction with the speaker and delegates. Delegates can have one to one conversation with the speakers, who’ll be experts in their field of specialization and get all their doubts clarified on the spot.

Speed dating will last for 10 minutes only. IAMAI will make an attempt to entertain as much requests as possible within the available time, however, a guarantee that you’ll get to speak to the speaker of your choice may not be possible.

Further, as always. You can use the medium of this blog to post your questions and queries. We’ll make an attempt to get them answered by concerned experts.

So, see you at IIMB next week
